How this Japanese Company is changing the face of Shared Mobility Services in India

-          ORIX Auto Infrastructure Services Limited is India’s largest Car Leasing Company, India’s largest B2B Car Rental Company and second largest Employee Transportation Company

-          ORIX Auto Infrastructure Services Limited is currently operating in 58+ cities in India

We have always heard that change is the only constant. Nothing could be more true when we talk about the shared mobility industry in India, where the disruptions in last 5 years have probably exceeded the technology innovations of over last two decades combined in the ground transportation sector.  The changing usage patterns and changing ownership models have contributed to this paradigm shift and this has been further propelled by various environmental factors like rising pollution levels and search for sustainable environment friendly solutions to service the growing transportation needs of India.

Increasing traffic in metro cities, higher travelling times, road congestion and pollution have all accelerated a shift in consumer usage patterns which is now focused on experience rather than ownership of asset. This has led to growth in the greener shared mobility options like Self Drive Car Rentals, Car Pooling,  Subscription of Cars and Short Term Leasing.

This is where -   ORIX Auto Infrastructure Services Limited, an affiliate of ORIX, a Japanese financial services group, has been building its niche in India over the last 25 years. ORIX has the largest share in the automobile leasing industry in Japan and ORIX Auto Infrastructure Services Limitedis the only company in India which provides an entire gamut of transportation services such as Leasing, Chauffeur Driven Cars, Employee Transport Solutions, Self Drive Car Rentals, Fleet Management Solutions, Subscription of Vehicles and Test Drive Experiences amongst other, under a single umbrella with a presence across all major Tier I and Tier II cities in India.
Completing 25 years in India in 2020, ORIX Auto Infrastructure Services Limited has gradually become a force to reckon with in the shared mobility space in the country by becoming India’s largest B2B Car Rental provider, the largest Car Leasing provider in India and India’s second largest Employee Transportation solutions provider.

Today, ORIX Auto Infrastructure Services Limited has a very enviable client base which includes more than one thousand of India’s biggest corporate houses.  There is a good overlap of its services across these customers and in addition to serving some of the largest names in Corporate India, ORIX Auto Infrastructure Services Limited has also ventured into the retail space where it provides Self Drive Car Rental services under its brand of MyChoize Self Drive Car Rentals present in 17+ cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Goa, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Jaipur and others.

According to various industry reports, India is expected to witness a CAGR of 9.7% in shared mobility industry until 2025 with large population, young demographic and spiking interest in digital media being the primary drivers. ORIX Auto Infrastructure Services Limited currently manages over 25 thousand cars on its platform and provides mobility to overone hundred thousand employees in India on a daily basis.

CredAble granted NBFC license by the Reserve Bank of India

As an NBFC, CredAble will target untapped lending opportunities within India’s supply chain ecosystems

A staggering number of Financial Technology or “FinTech” companies have cropped up in India over the past few years, disrupting classic business and payment models. In this emerging FinTech sector, some of the most prominent buzzwords are Blockchain, Big Data, IoT (Internet of Things), etc., prompting investors to back the most tech-enabled businesses. While a lot of these companies focus on B2C business models, some of the biggest innovations in FinTech are also taking place in the B2B segment.

CredAble, which represents the latter category, is leveraging its trade finance expertise, robust technology development capabilities and its access to 3rd party capital to reimagine supply chain finance in India. Very simply put, it connects large corporations, and their suppliers and distributors to third party capital providers through its supply chain technology platform and arranges funding programs linked to transactions within the corporate supply chain. The programs result in win-win outcomes for all supply chain participants.

CredAble's wholly-owned subsidiary, Equentia Financial Service Private Limited, has been granted a non-deposit taking Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC) licence by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Having successfully gained traction with some of India’s leading corporates, the NBFC license will allow CredAble to lend directly to SMEs and MSMEs and access debt markets to optimize its capital structure, providing suppliers with increased access to on-tap funding and untapped lending opportunities such as pre-invoice stage financing within India’s corporate supply chains.

Commenting on the approval of CredAble’s NBFC license application by the RBI, Co- Founder and CEO – CredAble, Mr. Nirav Choksi said that, “CredAble will use its NBFC status to provide short-term working capital solutions to suppliers in select eco-systems which tend to experience mismatched receivables and payables cycles. Oftentimes, these suppliers have limited access to bank financing or simply fall short of the credibility to be deemed ‘bankable’ and therefore have limited or no access to funds. CredAble fills this void by providing liquidity options during the pre-invoice and post-invoice phases.”

CredAble’s milestone couldn’t have been timed better since development of NBFCs was one of the highlights of the Budget 2019. Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman announced that for the purchase of high-rooted pool assets of financially well NBFCs, totaling an amount of Rs. 1 lakh crore during the financial year, the government will provide a one-time six months' limited credit guarantee of 10% to the public sector banks for their first loss. NBFCs are now also permitted to participate as lenders on the government mandated TReDS platform available to MSMEs for accessing invoice-based funding. The inclusion of NBFCs on TReDS recognizes their significant role in closing the supply gap for working capital funding to MSMEs. Nirav further elaborates, "NBFCs are playing an important role in the economy and friendlier regulations will serve to boost liquidity available to supply chains and strengthen credibility of FinTech companies in India."

CredAble is also harnessing the power of blockchain and big data to improve its value proposition for its platform participants. The company partnered with MonetaGo, to participate on its block-chain platform which prevents double-financing of invoices and mitigates trade finance fraud. CredAble has developed a proprietary Credit Assessment Model, which analyzes financial, transactional and company-specific parameters to generate credit scores for prospective borrowers and minimizes the risk of default.

Borne of the philosophy that no two clients are the same, the Company takes pride in its ability to offer bespoke funding programs for corporate supply chains. CredAble’s new status as an NBFC will enable proprietary lending within corporate supply chains and enhance the Company’s value proposition to supply chain participants.

Earlier this year, the CoWrks Foundry partnered with the Yale Institute for Global Health (YIGH), supported by RMZ Foundation, to announce the collaborative Sustainable Health Initiative (SHI).

The event was an exclusive gathering of healthcare entrepreneurs, experts in policy and seasoned practitioners. The objective of the event was to inspire and align and connect founders, investors and coaches. The event aimed at creating a community, with a shared focus on ushering innovative and scalable solutions to the Indian healthcare sector.

A keynote speech was delivered by Yale School of Public Health’s Dean Sten Vermund on the important role of social entrepreneurship in healthcare. Vermund’s speech was followed by a fireside chat between Vikram Damodaran, (Founder of five.eight), Anand Anandkumar (Founder of Bugworks) and Dr. Charit Bhograj (Founder of Tricog Health).

Moderated by Sten Vermund, the panel discussion was centered around the key challenges, opportunities and strategies in healthcare sectors in both rural and urban India. The event came to a close with all the shortlisted startups delivering immersive product pitches to the audience. The inaugural cohort of the Sustainable Health Initiative (SHI) program comprised innovative startups building new age solutions across maternal health, infectious diseases, and healthcare accessibility and affordability.

The SHI program has been designed to power ‘Innovation’ for long-term social, health and environmental impact in emerging economies. With the ecosystem ripe for innovation, healthcare companies in India are effectively poised to impact billions in the country as well as globally.

“The cohort that we've assembled today is the culmination of a highly selective global application process. After a tough and intensive review that included multiple rounds of interviews and diligence, we've shortlisted companies from both the Indian ecosystem and Yale that are solving a diverse set of complex problems with a mission to impact the life and health of millions across the world. We find this class to consist of humble founders, passionate missions and resilient business models and look forward to arm these companies with the expertise, frameworks and network required to succeed at scale,” said Nruthya Madappa, Managing Partner, The CoWrks Foundry

As part of this program, each startup will receive up to USD $70,000 in seed funding, mentorship from Yale’s faculty and alumni, as well as benefits from a network of Indian industry experts. In addition, the program includes structured sessions to help startups evolve into a sustainable and scalable business model, refine their go-to-market strategy and build a global network.

“Around the world, we face growing health and economic disparities. The public sector cannot fully address the scope and scale of these challenges without private sector ingenuity and creativity,” stated Sten Vermund, Dean, Yale School of Public Health. “We are enthusiastic about the launch today of the Sustainable Health Initiative to further find innovate solutions that will have a significant impact on the health of communities in India, the U.S., and around the world.”
