Pakistani singers Rahat Fateh Alis Khans song retained in film ... after fight.

Music composer Vipin Patwa had to fight producers of Akshara Haasan's "Laali KI Shaadi Mein laddoo Deewana" to retain Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's song Rog Jaane in the film.

While actors from across the border became the centre of attention following the Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association's ban of Pakistani artistes and technicians in Bollywood, the disappointment of the other artistes affected by the move, including Pak singers, rarely got an audience.

Following the September 2016 Uri attacks, which prompted the ban, prominent Pak singers were out of work on this side of the border. But art has managed to break boundaries.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan had lent his voice to a song titled 'Rog Jaane' for Akshara Haasan's upcoming film, 'Laali Ki Shadi Mein Laddoo Deewana'. While the makers wanted to drop the love track, which was recorded before the Uri attacks, to avoid controversy, the film's music composer, Vipin Patwa, says he managed to convince them to retain it.

Speaking exclusively to mid-day, Vipin says, "I thought replacing his voice would be disrespectful. I managed to convince the makers to retain his version. [There would be room for controversy] if we had recorded the number post-September."

When contacted, the film's producer, TP Aggarwal, admits they wanted to "play safe". "We didn't want to offend anyone. The song is amazing, right from the composition, to the lyrics, and then there is the brilliance of Rahat sahib's voice."

ArthImpact launches on-tap digital lending in India

ArthImpact launches on-tap digital lending in India

Affordable small loans from INR 2,000 to INR 1,00,000 a first step in ArthImpact’s new-age banking journey

ArthImpact today announced the launch of on-tap loans to bring the benefits of India Stack and Jan Dhan to crores of families and small businesses in India. ArthImpact’s mission is to provide digital financial services, with credit as a first product, to the undeserved mass market. Loans are now being selectively rolled out via partners.

ArthImpact’s Proposition

1. On tap affordable loans from INR 2,000 to INR 1,00,000
2. A paperless application process with instant approval and disbursement within seconds
3. New ‘fairer’ way of banking compared to informal lenders
4. Benefits of India Stack and Jan Dhan
5. Tied up with aggregators serving over 6 lakh small entrepreneurs

ArthImpact was founded by Manish Khera and Gautam Ivatury, recognized pioneers with decades of experience in digital finance. ArthImpact’s model leverages technology to create a new-age, fairer way of banking – fun, accessible by all, and available anytime and anywhere. The company’s loans for small merchants are less costly and more reliable than informal borrowing. With its very first product, ArthImpact is increasing the financial strength of small and micro-entrepreneurs, the heart of Indian commerce.

Manish Khera is a financial inclusion pioneer in India with over 20 years of banking experience and has also helped shape policies in this space. He has held roles such as CEO of Airtel Payments Bank, Co-Founder of YTS Solutions and founder and CEO of FINO Paytech - India’s largest provider of Business Correspondent based banking services with over 70 million clients. Manish also spent many years at ICICI Bank across corporate and retail portfolios. Gautam Ivatury has started, advised and funded mobile ventures and Fortune 500 players globally as head of the CGAP / World Bank digital finance program (backed by the Gates Foundation), as Co-Founder of Signal Point Partners (an advisory firm and incubator), and via Board and investor roles at fintech startups.

Announcing the launch, Manish Khera commented, “Today, banks and new-age lenders have introduced online loans to a narrow set of professionals and medium-sized enterprises. Our mobile platform and analytics-rich solution enables on-tap access for customers needing a few thousand to one lakh rupees at short notice. This will help fill gaps in family finances or small business cash-flow.We want to provide digital financial services to customers at economical rates so as to make positiveIMPACT on customer’s life.

ArthImpact’s primary research revealed a dire need for easy cash management among customers in the INR 1 lakh to 5 lakh per annum income bracket – including shopkeepers, traders, and semi-skilled workers in urban and semi-urban areas. Until now, only moneylenders have offered these segments what they need – ease of application, instantly available funds, and flexibility – which is why informal loans are the biggest form of household borrowing pan-India (according to the 2016 ICE 360° survey).

“Because we target people who are borrowing formally for the first time, we’re investing heavily in a simple and easy experience – a paperless application process, instant approval, and disbursement within seconds. To reach scale, we’ve already tied up with aggregators serving over 6 lakh small entrepreneurs across the country,” commented Gautam Ivatury.

In Mumbai, ArthImpact is housed at Rise, Barclays Bank’s fintech accelerator. The company also operates a technology and R&D lab in the U.S – Arth Labs.

We are delighted with the conviction that Hotstar will be the best vehicle this summer to reach this audience.”

Vivek Zhang, CMO, Vivo India said, “It is exciting to see how the experience of enjoying cricket is changing with the surging demand of watching TV on small screens. Hotstar appeals to the youth and enjoys a tremendous brand recall. Its desire to constantly invest on innovative technology which is in line with Vivo’s marketing objectives made it a preferred choice for Vivo.

We are truly excited about the delightful cricket experience that the platform is driving and were indeed keen to be a part of this drive.”

More and more of our target groups are now engaging with us on digital mediums. There is a diffusion of purchase cycle within digital since 50% of users start their research online which makes it imperative for us to be present extensively on these mediums. Hence our approach is integrating offline and online. We wanted to embody the spirit of Play Glamourous for Vitara Brezza across the markets, and found a perfect fit by reaching out to the audiences via their closest screens i.e. mobiles.
